Formed by Murray and Roxy Lumsden in the South Eastern Wheatbelt town of Varley in 1985, the business revolved around bulk fuel distribution in the Lakes Region. Varley was a relatively new farming area and was heavily populated by farmers developing their new land blocks, as a result the business delivered millions of litres of fuel to the Lakes region on an annual basis.

From here the business expanded into servicing local farmers with their bulk haulage needs, including the transportation of grain, fertiliser and other products. In 2002, the business sold the fuel distribution and expanded into the earthmoving & mining industry, with the acquisition of a major share in Earthex Logistics Pty Ltd in Port Hedland.

A farming enterprise was also part of the business, operating out of the Lakes area and revolved around 4500Ha of broad acre farming land where the main enterprises included Lupins, Wheat and Barley production. The farming business has given Varley Transport a very balanced approach to all aspects of broad acre agricultural production.

During 2011 Varley Transport set up a depot in the Central Wheatbelt town of Beacon to service the increased demand for a bulk carrier in the area. The next year we began construction in Perth on our yard in Forrestdale.

In late 2015, Varley Transport purchased R.S. Gill Transport – a Livestock Transportation contractor operating out of Narembeen. With the purchase of the stock crates, the business expanded further with the transportation of sheep and cattle. This progression complimented the liquid transport work Varley Transport already did in the area.
