John Ryan Removals was established by John Ryan in 1975 operating in Huntingdale, Victoria. The company became the leading commercial removalist in Melbourne in no time. Some of John Ryan’s earliest major relocations included The Age from Collins St. to its current location in Spencer St., with the MMBW (Melb Water) and VicRail to new Head Offices.

As operations moved to Springvale in Victoria in 1980, it became the Head Office with branches in Sydney, Townsville and Brisbane. Agency partnerships where then formed in Perth, Adelaide, Canberra and Tasmania.

John Ryan mainly focused on providing first-class “value for money” removal services and gained solid reputation by building a sound corporate network with some of the biggest Australian companies. 

The company now provides more than a thousand removals every year for Toll Transitions, a trading partner for over 30 years. Toll Transition is in charge of relocating all Australian Defence personal, government departments and corporations.

In 1997, international removals were included to John Ryan’s list of services that enabled the company to offer a full range of relocation services with operations fully controlled from within the family business’ operating perimeters.

In 2002, John Ryan Removals was affiliated to FIDI, a global alliance of professional international moving companies. We also successfully obtained FAIM Quality Accreditation which is a quality accreditation given to international moving companies. After reaching the qualifying benchmark, John Ryan Removals became the first company in Australia to achieve a four-year desk top audit.

Through the FIDI network, we selected qualified removal agents from around the world based on their ability to provide the vast range of removal services that the corporate world demands. The overseas agents we carefully picked have the service culture that can help in the growth of our corporate customer base.

In 2004, the second generation of Ryans, Tony and Damian, took control of the business. The two became joint Managing Directors after they purchased John Ryan Removals with the goal of being an outstanding service provider in Melbourne for office, local, interstate removals and international removals.
